China has responded sharply to U.S. President Donald Trump’s threat to impose additional tariffs on European countries over a potential Greenland deal. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing has stated its position on Greenland multiple times and stressed that international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter must be upheld. Guo urged the United States to stop using the so-called ‘China threat’ as a pretext to pursue what he called selfish interests.
