Anton Du Beke has revealed his reasons for having children later on in life.
The Strictly Come Dancing star, 54, was 50 years old when he welcomed twins George and Henrietta with wife Hannah Summers, 43, in 2017.
And on Wednesday’s edition of Steph’s Packed Lunch, Anton discussed how different factors led to him deciding to become a father at an older age, after presenter Steph McGovern asked the guest on his opinion following the news breaking that supermodel Naomi Campbell, 50, announced she became a mum on Tuesday.
During the Channel 4 show, the dancing star admitted that his selfishness played a role in him holding back from being a young dad – as well as not being “emotionally and financially ready.”
When Steph quizzed Anton on being a father in his 50s, he shared: “I couldn’t imagine doing it any other age, of course, because I haven’t.”
Telling how being a father later on suited him, he continued: “I wouldn’t have been ready for it earlier in my life.”
Confessing that he was very self-centred as a young man, Anton said: “The earlier part of my life was very very strictly on me.”
He went on: “I wouldn’t have been ready for number of reason, that reason, financially – children can cost you a few quid!”
Elsewhere during the chat, Steph, 38, told how she was labelled a geriatric mum by doctors when she was expecting her daughter in 2019.
Anton then explained that his wife was also handed the name but went on to add how nowadays it is more common for women to have babies in their late 30s.
Sharing his point of view, he went on: “It is a bit cruel to call them geriatric!”
Anton’s wife Hannah heartbreakingly struggled to conceive due to suffering from painful condition of endometriosis.
