Sunset Boulevard (1950)
- IMDb – 8.4/10

Sunset Boulevard is a classic. Named after a major street that runs through Hollywood, this film noir story is about an aspiring writer that befriends a silent-film star that’s planning a grand return to the spotlight.
However, the shining promises of stardom soon take a dark turn. Despite criticising the epicentre of cinema, Hollywood loved this film.
It received 11 Oscars, including:
- Best Writing, Story and Screenplay
- Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Black-and-White
- Best Original Score
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is a mash-up of rom-com and sci-fi elements.
Ever wished that you could just forget all about an ex? In this film, there’s a technology that allows you to do just that.
As Joel undergoes the procedure, he is reminded of why he fell in love, and what made him fall out of love, all at once.

Little Miss Sunshine (2006)
- IMDb – 7.8/10
- Rotten Tomatoes – 91%
A tragicomedy like no other, Little Miss Sunshine can make you laugh and cry in the same scene.
No family is perfect; everyone has problems that they are working through.
As a dysfunctional family takes a road trip in a yellow Volkswagen van to get the youngest member, Olive, to the Little Miss Sunshine Beauty Pageant, the physical journey becomes a spiritual journey as well.
The critics praised this film and we think you will as well. Alan Arkin and the film both won an Oscar and a BAFTA, Arkin for Best Supporting Actor, and the film for Best Original Screenplay.
Sunshine on Leith (2013)
- IMDb – 6.6/10
- Rotten Tomatoes – 90%
What the Mamma Mia films are to ABBA, this film is to the Proclaimers.
It’s impossible not to sing along with this romantic musical (dodgy Scottish accents are always encouraged).
The story follows two soldiers who have returned from a tour of Afghanistan and are settling back into civilian life.
There’s love and laughs, but also some tear-jerking moments. We’d walk 500 miles, and 500 more, to see this film.
Beloved by fans and critics alike, this film got nominations for BAFTA Scotland’s Best Actor (Peter Mullan), Best Actress (Jane Horrocks and Freya Mavor), Best Director (Dexter Fletcher) and Best Film.
