The trust holds a stake in the automotive component manufacturer Sona Comstar, which is the flagship of the Sona Group and is valued at Rs 29,186 crore.
Wanting the court to declare the trust as null and void, Rani termed the RK Family Trust as “illegal, fraudulent and unregistered” and seeks restoration of her entire estate and legacy as it existed prior to the creation of the trust in 2017.
The family matriarch accused her late son and his third wife Priya Kapur of being the “chief mastermind” in asset transfers and also in fraudulently diverting her entire family legacy, estate, and all her movable and immovable assets without her knowledge or consent.
The 80-year-old sought to permanently restrain Priya and others from utilising or acting in furtherance of the RK Family Trust in any manner whatsoever. She has also sought rendition of accounts of the RK Family Trust, from its inception, among other reliefs.
She claimed that after she suffered a stroke in 2017, the couple exploited her physical dependence and made her sign documents, including blank papers, under the pretext of administrative convenience. Later, Priya acted swiftly after Sunjay’s death to assume control of key Sona Group companies without notice to her, she told the court in her petition.
According to her petition, her signatures were later misused to transfer her assets into the trust without her informed consent. The trust deed of October 26, 2017, allegedly contains forged signatures, with different versions showing inconsistent signatures upon forensic examination, she claimed.
