The Rams lead the Bengals, 13-10, at halftime of Super Bowl LVI.
Quarterback Matthew Stafford had a solid first half for the Rams, completing 12 of 18 passes for 165 yards. He threw an interception but had two touchdown passes, one of 17 yards to Odell Beckham Jr. and the other of 11 yards to fellow wide receiver Cooper Kupp. The Rams botched the extra point following Kupp’s touchdown.
Stafford also threw an interception. That came after Beckham injured his left knee on an incompletion during that drive. He was taken to the medical tent on the Rams’ sideline, then to the tunnel leading to the locker room. The Rams called him questionable to return to the game.
The Bengals got a field goal by rookie kicker Evan McPherson, set up by a spectacular one-handed catch by rookie wideout Ja’Marr Chase for a 46-yard gain that victimized star Rams cornerback Jalen Ramsey, and a gadget-play touchdown pass from running back Joe Mixon to wide receiver Tee Higgins.
Quarterback Joe Burrow connected on 12 of 18 first-half passes for 114 yards.
The most bizarre play of the half came when Bengals cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III, who is on the inactive list for the game and not in uniform, ran on the field to join the celebration of the end zone interception by safety Jessie Bates III. That resulted in the Bengals, by rule, being penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct for a player not in uniform being on the field. (Rams 13, Bengals 10)
