Surat (Gujarat): Concerns over the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) have spread on social media, with many fearing its impact in India. However, doctors have clarified that HMPV is not a new virus and has been present in the country for years. In Surat, 15 cases of HMPV were reported over the past year, with no fatalities. The virus has mostly affected children, though it has also been detected in adults. Surat’s Civil Hospital is fully prepared to handle any further cases, with ongoing monitoring and testing for the virus. Microbiologists confirmed that HMPV is not new and has been present in India for years, detected via respiratory panel tests.
