Taylor Swift is pulling back the curtain on one of the most difficult chapters of her personal life. During The Eras Tour, while performing night after night, she was quietly navigating heartbreak. In her docuseries The End of an Era, Swift explains how the tour became her emotional anchor.

What did Taylor reveal about her breakups?

In episode four of The End of an Era, Swift spoke candidly about ending her relationship with Joe Alwyn at the start of the Eras Tour and later experiencing a public breakup with Matty Healy. Though she has largely kept details private, she said the emotional weight of those endings deeply affected her, as per a report by Cosmopolitan.

“Tortured Poets album is like this purge of just everything–everything bad that I felt for two years,” Swift said. “It was a really rough time in my life, so the songs reflect that.”

She explained how fame distorted her personal relationships, saying she often felt unseen as a person. “ Feeling like I’m not a person, I’m just this big conglomerate that no one sees as a really human being, especially not men that I date. And in the whole process just being like, nothing works. Nothing. There’s no one for me in the world.”

How did the Eras Tour help her cope?

Swift described the tour not as a burden, but as a lifeline. Despite the emotional strain, she said the performances gave her structure and purpose during a time when her personal life felt unstable, as per a report by Cosmopolitan.“There were points in this tour where the tour was really the only thing keeping me going in my life,” she said. “The show was what gave me purpose and was what I could use to get me out of bed.”

“But there were never points in the tour when I thought, ‘Oh, you know what I want to quit the tour because the tour’s hard.’ No my personal life was hard. I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour and that’s a lot of breakups, actually,” she shared.

She emphasized that the difficulty never came from performing. “The tour has never been the hard thing in my life,” Swift said. “The tour has been the thing that has allowed me to find purpose outside of the shit that was going wrong in my life,” as per a report by Cosmopolitan.

Reflecting on the emotional toll of the early months, she added, “ I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour and that’s a lot of breakups, actually.” “Men will let you down. The Eras Tour never will,” Swift said.

Why was ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ so personal?

Swift confirmed that both breakups directly influenced The Tortured Poets Department. The album became a place to release years of frustration, sadness, and isolation. She described it as a creative purge shaped by feeling invisible and emotionally drained.

How is her relationship with Travis Kelce different?

Swift also spoke about how her relationship with Travis Kelce has felt fundamentally different from past experiences on tour. She explained that touring had previously made it difficult to balance love and career.

“Relationships on tour has always been something I’ve really struggled with,” she said. “Somehow I was not able to do both and feel like I was nurturing both at the same time,” as per a report by Cosmopolitan.

With Kelce, she noted a shift. “Somehow there’s been this dynamic shift with Travis because it’s shocking how many similarities we have towards are jobs and how we view them and how we view each other.”
