Synopsis: High pressure is keeping the skies clear and the cold air in the Crossroads until Monday night as the high starts to depart off to the east.  This will allow for warmer temperatures overnight Monday into Tuesday with temperatures staying above freezing (mid 30’s).  Some spots in the northeastern portion of the viewing area could still drop below 32 degrees due to closer proximity to the departing high pressure system.

Temperatures get warmer on Tuesday as a return flow of air from the Gulf (south) moves back into South Texas.  The amount of moisture will be enough for some clouds but not enough to bring some showers even as a few small storms pass through the area.

In the long term for the extended period, days 3 to 7, Wednesday through Monday, the winter like feel comes to an end Tuesday night through Thursday as temperatures begin to warm back up.

Another touch of storm energy (in the upper levels) will move through the area Tuesday night into Wednesday but the lack of moisture in the atmosphere should prevent anything in the way of rain.  Coastal locations and boaters could run into a sprinkle or two but that is it for rain for the most part.

By the middle of the week more storm energy will push through the Plains while sending another cold front towards the Crossroads.

This cold front should move through the South Texas late Wednesday afternoon and then head near the shore during the evening hours.  This cold front will linger along the coast during the day on Thursday before another system of high-pressure pushes the rest of the cold front through the area on Thursday night.

This front will drop temperatures into the 30’s by Friday morning with some parts of the northern portion of the viewing area seeing freezing temperatures.  This will be another dry front without a lot of moisture and keeping rain chances between 10-20 percent. The best chances for rain will be further north where there will be more lift and moisture available.

A trough will move into the coastal locations Friday evening, increasing moisture to South Texas while temperatures warm into the 60’s on Friday and back into the 70’s over the weekend.

The increased moisture could allow for coastal showers over the weekend as well.  Finally, another cold front is headed to the Crossroads during the Sunday night timeframe that could bring rain to the area.
