Synopsis: Storms moving from the Great Lakes towards the Northeast today will send boundaries toward Texas on Friday night. This will start to erode our high-pressure ridge of protection across South Texas. As this boundary pushes into South Texas Friday night and Saturday, then a ridge over West Texas will continue to weaken and move off to the west Friday night and into Sataurday. The ridge is moving off but should continue to influence our weather through Friday and Friday night. The influence will be keeping the area dry besides a few isolated showers in the Crossroads and the Coastal Bend due to some lift from sea breeze interactions. As the boundary approaches South Texas on Saturday, more moisture will move into the region while the boundary (cold front) stalls north of the viewing area. Even stalling and staying to the north of us the boundary will still produce some scattered, isolated showers and thunderstorms. After Saturday then temperature highs much of the week will stay 5-degrees or so below average for a high due to clouds and rain. The cold front moving close, along with increased moisture combined with daytime heating from the sun will keep scattered showers and thunderstorms in the forecast through much of the work week. The area could see heavy showers at times. Hurricane Elsa (CAT 1 = 74-95 mph, Elsa = 85 mph, moving NW at 29 mph, 100 miles NW of Saint Vincent Island, Nearly 1,500 miles from Miami) is expected to head towards Florida in the next 4-6 days and potentially the west coast of Florida. At this time, it does not look like Elsa will have a direct impact on the Middle Texas Coast. The main concerns will be swells, rip currents and coastal flooding. Swells would not likely make it to the area until Thursday and Friday for those headed to the beach next week.
