No matter how long it’s been since The Dark Knight was released, it’s still a masterpiece. And now, one of its actors has expressed his thoughts on it.
According to Comicbook, actor Aaron Eckhart, who played Harvey Dent, recently did an interview. And he gave his own view of how he thinks of The Dark Knight. As per Eckhart, this film is more than a story of Batman against the Joker. And that it goes even beyond that, thus reflecting our own real world! In fact, he also compared the movie’s script with a “novel.”
“Some scripts are whatever; you get through them, and hey, fine. But The Dark Knight was a novel, and it was thick. It was like reading literature,” he said.
“And there’s something about Gotham City too. You have a city that’s oppressed and being run by a criminal gang. People can’t go out during the day, everybody’s scared for their safety, and the people paid to protect them are corrupted. They’re part of the gang, and nobody can trust anybody.”
The Dark Knight: Why it’s still called the benchmark?
Talking more about the epic superhero film, the actor said that the storyline was so realistic and natural that it’s relatable to the actual situations, and that it shows the exact happenings of our real world that we live in.
“Not only is it a great story and a great movie, but this is what cinema and art are all about. It’s a reflection of our times. Chris knocked it out of the park, and that’s why that movie is so important. And then, obviously, the performance of Heath [Ledger]. What a special, special movie. I was happy to be a part of it.”
He also revealed that if his character Harvey lived, he would’ve told the truth about the real crime instead of getting killed. That is, the entire city wouldn’t have blamed Batman, aka Bruce Wayne, for all the chaos in The Dark Knight.
“No, he would’ve told the truth. That’s the great thing about Harvey Dent. “Despite whatever is going on, he’s a truth-teller, and he’s a moral center. And not only that, he’s the face of truth, right?”
The future of superhero films
It’s still a significant fact that many big blockbusters take inspiration from Christopher Nolan‘s The Dark Knight even today. And that’s because it’s so believable and impactful in all manners. Philosophers also take many points out of its story, characters, and their thought process and decisions they take in the movie. Many Marvel films have also taken a few lessons from this immortal epic in the last few years. And it seems like, in the coming years, young and aspiring filmmakers will keep learning a lot from it.
Without a doubt, The Dark Knight can be called a bible, at least for several contemporary and future superhero films.
