Naughty Dog looks to be continuing on with the development of The Last of Us Part 2‘s Multiplayer mode as the developer is now hiring for an Economy Designer for a multiplayer experience.
The job posting states that the developer is looking for someone who can implement and tune the game economy and player progression systems. This team would then collaborate with other departments to ensure aspects mesh with the game as a whole.
It also seems like the Factions Multiplayer will be positioned as a much deeper experience, that will be supported for months and years to come, as the position talks about collaborating with a Live Ops team, which would presumably be in charge of content drops, seasonal events, etc.
So, whilst this job application doesn’t really provide much in the way of new information about the Factions multiplayer for the game, it shows that development is continuing on and it seems like the majority of the gameplay experience is likely finalised, and the goal now is to balance the experience’s economy, progression, and gameplay to ensure it all is fair and works as intended when the mode releases.

Factions multiplayer footage leaked last year for the game and although not being officially announced, Naughty Dog has confirmed they are working on it and that it will be worth the wait. We expect it to launch on both PS4 and PS5.
The Last of Us Part 2 is available now on PS4 and is playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility.
