Not sure if this is the correct place for this. I also preface this post with TW: suicide. I want to ask the right questions and get good feedback while being respectful.
My husband and I are currently having our house built. It should be move in ready in July. The subdivision has maybe 100 houses in it total, when completed; currently has about 50.

This weekend a 19 year old set his old house on fire went to the new house (on our block) caught that house on fire and shot himself in the home.
Our home is being built directly across from this home, our mailbox is on the side of their property, my kids saw the home driving by and are just spooked by the fire but have no idea. To take daily walks, look outside the home, drive home get our mail is facing the burned home.
My background: highly superstitious, very old school Mexican. This means everything is a sign and squirrels can look at me funny and I’ll go home and call it a day.
The community page for our division has removed all mention of the tragedy and will not allow any talk of it. This makes me worried what else is the owner of the community page hiding? Bad work being done on properties? Issues in homes? Why can’t we freely talk about issues in the neighborhood?
Questions: in a situation like this, will the home sit there until a buyer fixes it up? How marketable are homes in situations like this? Am I being crazy for not wanting the house directly across the street? Has a situation like this happened to you? How was it handled? What should I expect?
