Senator Ted Cruz and Daily Show host Trevor Noah have been going at it on Twitter. Here’s what caused it and what they’ve been saying.
Trevor Noah has fired back at Ted Cruz after the two became embroiled in a heated exchange on social media.
During a segment on his Daily Show program, Noah discussed the newly completed U.S. census.
Cruz responded appearing to mock Noah and things snowballed from there.
How did the spat start?
In footage from the show, Noah highlights that a newly released U.S. census report suggests that New York will lose a House seat, while Texas will gain two seats.
“Now, aside from New York getting screwed, the big news out of the census is that America’s population grew at the slowest rate since the 1930s,” Noah said.
“Basically, immigration is down and the birth rate is falling, primarily due to this photo,” he added, as a picture of Cruz appeared on screen.
“This is really unfortunate for New York state because it means that one of its congressional districts disappears,” Noah explained.
What was Ted Cruz’ response?
Senator Cruz appeared to take offense at Noah’s commentary.
He tweeted: ‘Trevor Noah whines that people are fleeing high-tax blue states & moving in droves to low-tax states like Texas, where the jobs are.
‘Doesn’t understand why people like freedom.’
In retaliation, Noah fired back by bringing up Cruz’ recent trip to Cancun, when he fled Texas during a winter storm that caused power outages across most of the state.
‘Not sure I’d be using the words ‘fleeing’ and ‘Texas’ in the same sentence, Senator Cancun,’ Noah tweeted.
Cruz replied saying, ‘I remember when the Daily Show was funny.’
The comedian has publicly criticised Cruz before over his trip to Mexico.
In February, Noah said, “After getting blasted for flying to Cancun when his own heat went off, Ted Cruz, Texas senator and Disney prince before true love’s kiss, is now back in his home state doing the literal bare minimum for the sake of the cameras.
“Sorry, Cruz. This is not gonna cut it, my man.”
