American voice actor Christopher Ayres has passed away. The tragic news was announced by his girlfriend Krystal LaPorte. He was known as the voice of Frieza from Dragon Ball Z Kai.
The late star had also gained prominence for his work in Gantz as Kei Kurono, Prince Soma from Black Butler, and Shingen Takeda from the Sengoku Basara series. He was aged 56 at the time of his death.

Christopher Ayres is dead at 56
Christopher’s actress girlfriend shared that he passed away “peacefully, held close to his mother, brother, and girlfriend and his arms wrapped around his Atticus pillow.”
She further noted that he listened to Jim Croce, The Charlie Chaplin musical, and Unchained Melody during his last moments.
In her note, Krystal also touched upon the actor’s health prior to his passing as she wrote, “I hope wherever you are, the first thing you did was take a long, deep breath with your perfect lungs and danced again.”
What was wrong with Frieza star’s health?
Christopher was diagnosed with end-stage COPD (Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), according to reports.
He announced on Twitter in 2019 that he had finally received the lung transplant. He tweeted on November 16, 2019, “new lungs who dis”
According to Anime News Network, a fundraiser campaign for Christopher was started by Anime Twin Cities Inc. in 2017 to support his medical expenses. The campaign managed to raise $25,000.
Twitter pays tribute to the voice actor
Fans of Christopher have taken to Twitter to pay him tribute after learning about his death. Several have remembered him for his talent and contribution to the entertainment world.
One tweeted, “Christopher Ayres, Frieza’s most recent voice actor in Dragon Ball Super: Broly, passed away yesterday. He voiced Frieza perfectly.”
Another wrote, “I look back on my childhood of staying up as late as I could cheering for Goku to beat this man, It’s kinda wild that he’s gone, Christopher Ayres will always be remembered for those classic lines as Frieza. I know you played the Villain but you were damn good at it. Rip man”
