Trump and Chrissy Teigen get into heated war of words on Twitter

President Trump and Chrissy Teigen got into a vicious verbal exchange on Twitter late Sunday night.

The heated war of words stemmed from a recent appearance that Legend — Teigen’s husband since 2013 — made on the NBC Nightly News, in which the singer discussed criminal justice reform and the FreeAmerica organization he founded in order to bring awareness to the issue.

Trump claimed on Twitter that Legend “and his filthy mouthed wife” were “taking the praise” for the work his administration had done to help improve the criminal justice system —  even though Teigen didn’t appear in the Nightly News special.

“When all of the people pushing so hard for Criminal Justice Reform were unable to come even close to getting it done, they came to me as a group and asked for my help,” Trump tweeted. “I got it done with a group of Senators & others who would never have gone for it. Obama couldn’t come close.”

Firing off three more tweets, the president said: “A man named @VanJones68, and many others, were profusely grateful (at that time!). I SIGNED IT INTO LAW, no one else did, & Republicans deserve much credit. But now that it is passed, people that had virtually nothing to do with it are taking the praise.”

The president then blasted the Grammy-award winning artist.

“Guys like boring musician @johnlegend, and his filthy mouthed wife, are talking now about how great it is – but I didn’t see them around when we needed help getting it passed,” he wrote.

“‘Anchor’ @LesterHoltNBC doesn’t even bring up the subject of President Trump or the Republicans when talking about the importance or passage of Criminal Justice Reform. They only talk about the minor players, or people that had nothing to do with it.”

Teigen responded about an hour later.

“lol what a p—y ass bitch. tagged everyone but me,” said the 33-year-old model. “An honor, mister president,”

She later tweeted: “The absolute best part of his tweet is I literally didn’t speak in the special, nor was I mentioned.”

Trump and Teigen have a history on Twitter. The president blocked her in 2017 after she repeatedly criticized him on the social media platform.

She and Legend have both voiced their disapproval with the president in the past, but have also said they are OK with their friends — including Kanye West — supporting him.

In 2018, West tweeted out a screenshot of text messages that Legend sent him, in which the singer was initially upset over the support.

“You’re way too influential to endorse who he is and what he stands for,” Legend wrote. “They respect your opinion. So many people who love you feel so betrayed right now because they know the harm that Trump’s policies cause, especially to people of color. Don’t let this be part of your legacy.”
