There is this idea that the man, the talent, gets props for being a lothario.
The idea that sleeping with lots of women creates status for a leading man – that’s absolutely part of the problem.
Violence against women and girls is all about power and control.
If you make it a powerful currency if you sleep with younger women, lots of women, you are a “bit of a lad”, that’s then the culture on the set, that’s what is tolerated.
As a woman, you will blame yourself if you don’t join in with that culture.

Any environment that has a very obvious hierarchy, where there is great demand for the lesser jobs and the point is to climb the ladder, then it is massively open to exploitation for those who hold the power.
It relies on power imbalance and on victims of those crimes thinking they are doing something wrong.
That’s what keeps people silent.

We all read about this behaviour and it totally normalises the idea that men have power and boys will be boys.
Instead of normalising the idea that boys will be boys, we should normalise the idea that boys will be held to account.
The women coming forward do it with great risk to themselves and, whether public or anonymous, their allegations should be taken seriously.
