SpaceX founder Elon Musk is one of the world’s most talked-about billionaires. The 49-year-old already has seven children and now he’s expanded his family even further by getting a dog. Elon opted for a Shiba Inu – a Japanese hunting dog.
It’s not often that entrepreneurs on Elon’s scale Tweet the goings-on of their lives but Elon’s no stranger to Twitter and clearly enjoys revealing details of his life to his followers. From cryptocurrency to his controversial baby name.
Elon Musk gets a new dog
On June 25th 2021, Elon Musk took to Twitter to announce that he’d be naming a new dog of his Floki.
It seems that any announcement from Elon usually results in some kind of shift in cryptocurrency value. After Elon presented SNL in 2021, the market changed when he plugged Dogecoin.
Now, his Tweet has caused his followers to scratch their heads over his new pet and its name.

Elon Musk: Floki meaning
The name ‘Floki’ may be derived from the TV series Vikings if Elon is a fan.
The 49-year-old may have named his pooch after the Vikings character. The character is said to be loosely based on the first Norseman to sail to Iceland.
The character in Vikings is played by Scandinavian actor Gustaf Skarsgård. However, Elon’s Shiba Inu may not be named a Vikings character at all, many people have Tweeted that his choice of dog breed may be more relevant than Floki’s name.
Elon opted for a Shiba Inu which is the dog breed featured as the face of Dogecoin! There’s also a Shiba Coin in 2021, however, it’s not confirmed whether this is a cryptocurrency that Elon is involved with.
Elon Musk’s dog name meaning
While Elon could literally have bought a Shiba Inu because he likes the breed and called it Floki because he likes the name, there are some Twitter users who think there’s more to Elon and Floki.
One person Tweeted: “A cool $SHIB name!” and another said: “Idk about you guys but #shiba is doing way more than #doge (in the developer sense) and that’s why Elon is getting shiba inu named floki.“
Some people, however, Tweeted less about Floki in relation to cryptocurrency and posted photos of Shiba Inu dogs wearing Viking gear – taking Elon’s Tweet quite literally!
