Martin Day hasn’t enjoyed a positive run with the UFC, he debuted with the promotion in 2017 at Dana White’s Contender Series and has suffered three straight promotional losses. However, he is not a mug and has an 8-4 professional record with 25% of his wins coming via T/KO. His last appearance came at UFC 251 where he lost to Davey Grant and lost via T/KO.
In four UFC fights, he has landed 5.39 strikes per minute at an accuracy of 45%. Furthermore, he is a substantial grappler who has 50% takedown accuracy and 72% takedown defense.
On the flip side, Anderson Dos Santos will enter the UFC octagon almost after 17 months. The Brazilian has 20 wins and 8 losses to his name. Just like his opponent Martin Day, Anderson too is yet to add a UFC win to his statistics.
The ‘Berinja’ has a 26% striking accuracy and has landed 2.70 strikes in a minute. He has defended 80% of takedowns attempted. Out of his 20 wins, Dos Santos has submitted 11 opponents. Apart from this, he has bagged 25% wins with TKO and 20% via decisions.
He relies on finishing his opponents rather than taking the fight long.
Day is yet to submit in his career; his 72% takedown defense will be put to the test on Saturday night. H will look to use his three-inch advantage to keep his opponent at a distance while using his high striking volume to great effect.
If Anderson can land a takedown, he can truly control the octagon with his groundwork. But Martin has a pleasant history in defending takedowns and might just secure his first UFC win.
Prediction – Martin Day via TKO.
