The United Nations announced that more than 796,000 people have been displaced in Gaza since last March, according to a breaking news report from Al-Qahera News channel.
The UN also stated that there were 17,000 new cases of displacement in Gaza between August 12 and 20, noting that 95 percent of the forced displacement is occurring in Gaza City.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Thursday called on Israel to halt its plans for a controversial settlement project in the occupied West Bank, noting that they violate international law and contradict United Nations resolutions.
Guterres’s spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, said in a statement that “moving forward with this project is an existential threat to the two-state solution, and would separate the north of the West Bank from its south, leaving grave consequences for the geographical contiguity of the occupied Palestinian territory.”
