As many as 50 percent of customers, or potentially more, have no service. While some users have no service at all, it has been going in and out for others. Nearly 20,000 Verizon customers across America faced troubles while sending text messages or making calls following the outage. Reports of cell service outages began surfacing at around 12 pm ET, according to Down Detector.
Verizon Outage: Which were most affected regions?
According to Down Detector, most outage reports surfaced from Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Orlando, Tampa, Minneapolis, Miami, Omaha, and Indianapolis, among others. The current data available on the site, which tracks interruptions of service for many different companies, suggests as many as 18,293 outage reports.

Verizon says it’s aware about the problem
According to Phone Arena, Verizon has said that it is aware of the problem and is trying to identify and solve it. “We are aware of a software issue impacting wireless service for some customers. Our engineers are engaged, and we are working quickly to identify and solve the issue. Please visit our Check Network Status page for updates on service in your area. We know how much people rely on Verizon and apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate your patience,” said Richard Young, Associate Vice President, Corporate Communications at Verizon, as quoted by Phone Arena. Several users have claimed that their devices are in SOS mode or satellite mode.
