A deal between the two counties is still in the works.
VICTORIA, Texas—A deal is in the works to transfer some Nueces County Jail inmates to the Victoria County Jail.
Victoria County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Will Franklin told me the Victoria County Sheriff’s office has submitted a memorandum of understanding to Nueces County to take in some of their jail’s inmates.
The Nueces County Jail is at capacity, Chief Deputy Franklin told me the Victoria County Jail is at 50-60% capacity. Chief Deputy Franklin said the county would be willing to take a maximum of 20 inmates from Nueces County. According to KRIS-TV in Corpus Christi, and Chief Deputy Franklin agrees with these details, that Nueces County will pay $60 a day to house an inmate and will transport the inmates to the Victoria County Jail. Chief Deputy Franklin told me once the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office gets the memorandum from Nueces County, it would still have to be okayed by Victoria County Commissioners.
