Inmate transfer started early October
VICTORIA, Texas—The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office is still taking in Nueces County jail inmates transferred here.
Victoria County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Will Franklin told me that right now there are about 20 Nueces County jail inmates in the Victoria County jail. Deputy Franklin said there have been no issues with Nueces County since the transfer started in early October. Deputy Franklin said Nueces County is paying to Victoria County for the inmate transfers $50 per inmate per day. That’s roughly $1,000 a day, and so Victoria County has received about $69,000 from Nueces County. Deputy Franklin added that Victoria County will probably take in more Nueces County inmates next year, and that the inmates have to be tested for COVID-19 and have no symptoms for 48 hours before transfer.
