Hi r/RealEstate,
I’ve recently found myself as a participant in a few discussions on urban design, walkable cities, and real estate. The idea was that North America is heavily car-centric and that walkability is underserved by both public and private spaces. I know of at least one development underway that’s directly trying to address this, but I’m wondering if this is an obscure issue or something that the real estate community would like to move towards as a whole.
From what I’ve seen, for example, it’s not unusual to showcase a good walk-score for a property, but I’m curious as to where the market is going regarding walkability or what the challenges/incentives are for selling walkable real estate.
Specifically, I’m looking for some help with any of the following questions:
-
Does creating or selling more walkability matter?
-
What’s your experience with this?
-
Where else should I be looking for answers?
Thank you.
DISCLAIMER: I’m still new to the subject of real estate and not sure if this is even the right forum, but any and all help is appreciated. I looked at the rules here and while I think my question complies, I apologize in advance if not. Thank you, either way.
