According to police, the case was filed on the basis of a complaint by Sarathkumar at the Perambalur District Superintendent of Police’s office. He alleged that he was manhandled by Vijay’s bouncers. Police said a case has been registered against Vijay and his security staff under three sections of the Indian Penal Code.
The development comes as Vijay, who launched TVK in 2024, steps up his political campaign ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Earlier this month, he declared his candidature from Madurai East and positioned DMK as his main rival while calling the Bharatiya Janata Party TVK’s “only ideological enemy.”
At the party’s second state conference in Madurai, Vijay told supporters, “TVK is not a political game; it is an ideology. This is not a speech for publicity. This is a warning to those who are in power. TVK is here to dominate. Crores of people are with us. The 2026 election is a fight between TVK and DMK.”
He also framed TVK as a clean political force, rejecting alliance politics and promising to address long-standing issues such as the safety of Tamil Nadu fishermen and reclaiming Katchatheevu island. “TVK is not a party that makes underground deals, forges alliances, and cheats the people. We are not afraid of anyone. The people of Tamil Nadu, the women and the youth stand with us,” he said.
Vijay has intensified his criticism of chief minister MK Stalin’s government, attacking it over custodial deaths, NEET, and the treatment of sanitation workers. In a sharp message to the Centre, he demanded abolition of NEET, asking, “Revoke NEET! Can you do it, Narendra Modi avargal?”
His recent rallies have drawn large crowds, underlining his mass appeal, but they have also seen setbacks.
At the Madurai conference, a 33-year-old TVK worker from Chennai died after collapsing on the way to the venue.In May, another incident at Vijay’s rally drew criticism. A viral clip showed a man breaching the security and tried to approach the Tamil superstar. Following which his security guard points a gun at the fan. The incident has triggered a heated debate on X (formerly Twitter).
So much so that Vijay had to issue a public apology. Addressing the media at Chennai airport, Vijay has requested fans not to follow his car or convoy.
