Concerns are growing for David Diamante after it was revealed that he met with a motorcycle accident on Monday, December 20, 2021.
The famous boxing announcer who is in recovery now revealed that the road to recovery is going to be a “struggle”.
David is a popular ring announcer with DAZN. He is best known as “The Voice of Boxing”, a title given by BBC Sport.
What happened to David Diamante?
David met with a serious motorcycle accident while riding on Third Avenue in Brooklyn beneath the Brooklyn Queens Expressway, according to Boxing Scene.
The 50-year-old was rushed to NYU Langone Health after suffering “three fractures to his spine, multiple broken ribs, and serious damage to his right knee.”
David underwent extensive surgery for five hours and had “nine screws, multiple rods, and cadaver parts” inserted in his spine.
Going by the reports there is no threat to his life.
Boxing announcer is positive about recovering
David issued a statement following his surgery as fans were concerned about his condition. It seems like he’s looking forward to returning to the ring soon.
In a statement, he said, “It’s going to be a tough road. It’s a bad injury and getting better will take some time. This will be a struggle.”
“I’ll have to learn to walk again, and right now there’s a risk of complications. But I have a positive attitude and will be back as soon as possible,” he added further.
Apart from announcing professional boxing, David has served as a TV host and actor.
He has announced for major networks including HBO, Showtime, ESPN, Sky Sports, DAZN, CBS Sports and NBC Sports among others.
Friends and fans wish him a speedy recovery
Many have taken to social media to wish David a speedy recovery.
Boxing promoter Lou DiBella wrote on Twitter, “Prayers up for @daviddiamante who’s just begun recovery from a awful motorcycle accident. Positive energy to him for a swift recovery and rehab. He has very serious injuries, but sounds good, can move everything, and his prognosis, with time and work, is good. Miracle. #boxing”
Another concerned fan tweeted, “Bad news about the boxing compare, get well soon David Diamante.”
“One of the truly great guys in boxing, prayers with him & no doubt with faith and god’s blessings he will recover! Speedy recovery to a genuinely good person!” wrote another.
