What is Asian fishing?
As per The Sun, Asian fishing is when an individual, who is not an Asian, tries to look like one. This is usually done by using makeup or embodying a certain type of look that might resemble people who are East-Asians.
Meanwhile, there are some who try to dress in stereotypical Asian attire to look more like them. Quite similar to blackfishing, Asian fishing is also deemed offensive.

Fans defend the singer
While there were many who got on the bandwagon of the cancel culture by talking about Ariana and Asian fishing, there were others who came forward to defend the singer.
One user wrote: “Starting to think people on this app don’t know what Asian or black people look like. Like if you see Ariana Grande and think she’s anything other than white that’s a massive you problem.”
Another added: “a lot of these “Ariana Grande is Asian fishing” comments just makes me think y’all have never seen Asian people IRL.” “Y’all, I can’t believe you’re canceling @ArianaGrande for “Asian Fishing”, just bc she did the Foxy Eye. That style of liner looks different depending on people’s eye shape. I haven’t seen you canceling @KendallJenner or @bellahadid who’ve been doing this style for years now” read another comment.
HITC has reached out to Ariana for a comment.
