What is Audius?
You’re likely unfamiliar with Audius if you’re an avid user of Spotify or Apple Music. Though, it looks like this streaming platform is now making major headway into the mainstream!
Launching in 2018, Audius’ website describes the service as: “a brand-new streaming platform built for all musicians, not just those signed to labels.”
The platform promises HQ audio at 320kbps and is also crypto-powered, using blockchain technology. According to this source, blockchain technology means “participants can confirm transactions without a need for a central clearing authority.”
As per Rolling Stone, “crypto” has been an up-and-coming ‘buzz word’ in today’s popular culture, meaning Audius has actually popularised in the last year. Rolling Stone reports that Audius had less than a million monthly active users in January, but now boasts over five million in August.
TikTok partners with music streaming platform
So, how will Audius work on TikTok? Allow us to explain.
Forrest Browning, Audius’ co-founder and chief product officer disclosed: “Any artist can take a song they already have on Audius and just export it over to TikTok in one click.”
Browning continued: “A common way that unsigned artists get their stuff up there right now is by holding their phone up to a laptop while it plays their song, and they add it as background music. It’s not great.”
Essentially, it seems as though Audius and TikTok have recognised the growing talent on the short-form video-sharing app, and the partnership is allowing for an easier music sharing process.
Roneil Rumburg, Audius’ co-founder and CEO shared: “The artists we’ve been talking to want to find better ways to connect the following they’ve built up on TikTok to other places where they can monetize their work better.”
