You might be asking what the significance of April 29th is as the date becomes the talk of TikTok.
This spring has seen a number of new trends emerge on TikTok. From the ever-popular love codes to a brand new eye color chart, there are plenty of ways to get involved with the video sharing app’s fun.
But for those not in the know, you’re bound to have questions about the ‘April 29th’ trend that has been splashed across the app this spring. Let’s take a look at how the trend started and what it means.
What is the meaning of the April 29th TikTok trend?
On Saturday, April 29, TikTok users shared short clips of themselves alongside the caption: “Do you really wanna know where I was April 29th.” This is a lyric taken from Taylor Swift‘s High Infidelity, a track from the singer’s latest album, Midnights.
It’s a relatively straight-forward trend. TikTok users create a short video of themselves singing along to the lyric before adding an image or clip of what they were up to either this April 29, 2023 or an April 29th from the past.
This is not to be confused with the disturbing April 24th TikTok trend which sees users warn the date will bring sexual violence against women.
Where was Taylor Swift on April 29th?
As the TikTok trend originated from a Taylor Swift song, there are some understandably who do want to know where Taylor was on April 29th.
There has been much fan-speculation over the lyric. Genius puts forth the idea that this is the date that Taylor met her recent ex-boyfriend Joe Alwyn. The former couple were rumored to have met at Gigi Hadid’s 21st birthday party. This took place on April 28, 2016 although it is suspected that the party went on until the early hours of the morning. Images from the event started to emerge on April 29. At this point, Taylor Swift was in a relationship with Calvin Harris. They confirmed their break up on June 1, 2016.
Joe Alwyn and Taylor started dating later in 2016 after a brief fling with Tom Hiddleston. Joe and Taylor parted ways this month, after six years as a couple.
