What is the World Environment Day theme in 2021? The UN’s annual day of awareness has come around again. So, let’s find out more about #GenerationRestoration!
Each year, there’s a different World Environment Day theme. The day was first established on June 5th, 1972 by the United Nations, although it wasn’t recognised in the USA until 1974.
In 1974, the theme was “Only One Earth”. Overall, the day is an opportunity to show some love for the planet and recognise the importance of the environment on people and habitats all over the world.

World Environment Day is officially here as of June, 5th 2021.
To take part in the day, there are many activities to do. Or, people can simply raise awareness by hashtagging #WorldEnvironmentDay and #GenerationRestoration.

What is the World Environment Day theme in 2021?
The World Environment Day slogan in 2021 is “Reimagine. Recreate.Restore.” and the overall theme is “Ecosystem Restoration”.
By restoring ecosystems all over the globe, habitats for nature will begin to return and issues such as climate change could begin to improve.
The UN writes on its website that between 2021 and 2030, it’s proposing “a global mission to revive billions of hectares, from forests to farmlands, from the top of mountains to the depth of the sea“.
World Environment Day: Generation Restoration
On World Environment Day both #WorldEnvironmentDay and #GenerationRestoration are being used on social media posts.
From restoring forests to peatlands, World Environment Day is calling for urgent action to revive damaged ecosystems all over the planet.
The UN writes that restoring ecosystems can have many benefits for people including creating jobs for people in rural areas.
