Nikki Haley has announced that she will be running for President of the United States in the 2024 election. Many want to know more about Haley including her career highlights, her religion, and her family.
Haley announced the news in a tweet, saying: “Now is not the time to hold back. Now is the time for a strong and proud America.”
In her campaign video, Haley states that it is “time for a new generation of leadership”.

Haley was raised Sikh, but both her children, Nalin and Rena, have been baptised in the Methodist Church.
She married her husband, Michael, in two ceremonies- one Sikh and the other in a Methodist church in Hilton Head, according to the New York Times.
Speaking about her religion, Haley said: “I still find these things to be very private. However, when people question you, you do have to answer them.”
Haley and her husband “chose Christianity because of the way we wanted to live our life and raise our children,” CNN reported.
A look at Haley’s career so far
In 2004, Haley ran for the South Carolina State House and won, before going on to be elected as the 116th governor of South Carolina in 2010.
She was the youngest governor in the country as well as the first minority female governor in America, according to her biography. Haley was reelected in 2014.
In 2016, Haley was nominated by Donald Trump to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Haley is married to Michael Haley, whom she met at Clemson University. Michael is a combat veteran who was deployed to Afghanistan in 2013, which made Haley the first U.S. governor to have her spouse deployed.
Haley has two children and two dogs, Bentley and Rio.
She was born in South Carolina as one of four children in the only Indian-American family in town and has two brothers and a sister.
Her parents run the clothing business Exotica International, for which Haley took over the bookkeeping when she was just 13.
