BBC Two airs the gripping drama, Danny Boy, at 9 pm tonight which has a look at the 2004 battle in Iraq and focuses on Brian Wood’s life.
Danny Boy tells the real-life story of Brian Wood and his journey from medal-winning soldier to an alleged war criminal.

Who is Brian Wood?
Brian Wood is a former Colour Sergeant who served at the Battle of Danny Boy, in Iraq, in 2004. He was in the military for 16 years.
As noted on his website, he was awarded the Military Cross, one of Britain’s highest awards for gallantry in combat, by Her Majesty The Queen II, following his service in Iraq.
Five years after returning from war, Brian was wrongfully accused of war crimes after a public inquiry had started, led by human rights lawyer Phil Shiner.
Brian’s name was cleared in 2014 which was the time when he left the army.
His real-life story is told on BBC’s Danny Boy. Taking to Twitter, the former soldier wrote: “Well, today is the day that everyone can watch #DannyBoy. It’s been three years in the making and I hope I have done everyone proud. Massive thank you to my wife who has been the absolute glue to our family.”

Where is Brian Wood now?
Brian has spent the last few years serving as a public speaker across the UK and Europe.
He worked with I May Destroy You director Sam Miller and BAFTA-winning writer Robert Jones for the production of Danny Boy.
He often gives interviews about his life and has made appearances on Good Morning Britain, BBC Radio4 and Talk2Me Radio in the past.
Brian published his memoir ‘Double Crossed: A Code of Honour, A Complete Betrayal’ in 2019, which tells his career in the army and the allegations against him.

Who stars as Brian Wood on Danny Boy?
Actor Anthony Boyle portrays Brian Wood on the factual BBC drama.
Anthony, who studied at Cardiff’s Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, played Scorpius Malfoy in the Broadway production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
He also starred in Derry Girls and the 2019 feature film Tolkein.
Danny Boy airs on BBC Two on Wednesday, May 12th, 2021.
