Find out the price, release date and where to order the new Switch controllers.
N64 and Sega Mega Drive/ Genesis games are coming to Nintendo Switch via the Switch Online expansion pack later this month – and if you want a more authentic experience – you’re gonna want to get your hands on Nintendo’s new Switch controllers.
My Nintendo Store is now taking pre-orders for the N64 and Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive Switch controllers. At the moment you can currently only pre-order the Nintendo 64 Switch controller in the UK, whereas both the N64 and Sega Genesis controllers are available to pre-order in the US.
Both controllers are £39.99/ $49.99 each and you’ll need to have an active Switch Online subscription to be able to purchase them. Nintendo is limiting each account to four of each controller.

The UK launch date is 26th October 2021, and the US launch date is 25th October – the same release date as the Nintendo Switch Online expansion pack. You can find out all about the new Switch Online membership prices in Matt’s article, plus more about the included Animal Crossing Happy Home Paradise expansion, which got announced today.
Here’s where you can order the N64 Switch controller and the Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive controller:

Both wireless controllers are rechargeable via a USB A-C cable and the N64 controller includes a built-in rumble functionality. This means you can enjoy rumble features in compatible games such as Star Fox 64. You might even want to play more recent software titles with the Nintendo 64 controller – however a lot of games are probably not compatible due to the Nintendo 64 controller’s different button layout.
If you want to see the full list of games being added to the N64 and Sega Genesis/ Mega Drive libraries, head on over to Tom’s article – or you can check out the video just below. Nintendo also recently confirmed the Switch Online N64 games will be 60Hz and you can find out more here.
Some might argue these controllers are priced too high and it’s fair to say there’s already some great third party alternatives on the market for almost half the price. This includes the 8BitDo M30 Bluetooth Wireless Gamepad for £23.80 at Amazon.
Nintendo Switch Online already boasts a decent library of NES games and you can enjoy these with Nintendo’s officially licensed NES Switch controller– a two pack is currently £49.99 however they went down to half price back in August – so you might want to wait to see if they get reduced again. Switch Online’s SNES library is also not to be missed. The SNES Switch controller is currently out of stock but we will let you know when it’s available again.
