American director Peter Bogdanovich has sadly passed away this week aged 82.
The New York native is best known for directing the 1971 coming-of-age drama film The Last Picture Show which earned eight Academy Award nominations including Best Director.
Tributes to the much-loved director, writer, actor, producer, critic and film producer are flooding social media after his agent confirmed that he died on Thursday (January 6th).
At the time of writing this, his cause of death is unknown.

Meet Peter’s ex-wife
Peter was married to Canadian actress Louise Stratten for 13 years from 1988 to 2001.
The film star is the half-sister of famous Canadian Playboy Playmate, model and actress Dorothy Stratten.
As per her IMDB profile, the 53-year-old from Vancouver has appeared in a number of films including She’s Funny That Way (2014), City Island (2009) and Django Unchained (2012).
Her other notable appearances include It: Chapter Two (2019), Irene In Time (2009) and Ninja Cheerleaders (2008), and she also starred in a number of TV shows in her early career.
Louise is also a producer and has produced a number of well-known works including Noises Off…, The Great Buster and She’s Funny That Way.
He was married before
Before Louise, Peter was married to American film producer, production designer and screenwriter Polly Platt.
The Illinois native worked on many films with Peter including Targets (1968) and The Last Picture Show (1971) before being the production designer on What’s Up, Doc? (1972) and Paper Moon (1973).
She was also the first female art director to be accepted into Hollywood’s Art Director’s Guild, a union that represents thousands of motion picture and television professionals in the United States and Canada.
Her other notable works include Pretty Baby (1978), Good Luck, Miss Wyckoff (1979) and A Map of the World (1999) and she was involved in initial meetings about The Simpsons.
The pair divorced during the filming of The Last Picture Show when Peter left her for its lead actress Cybill Shepherd, who he then dated for seven years.

Does Peter have children?
Peter has two children with his second wife Polly Platt.
They have two daughters, 51-year-old Antonia Bogdanovich and 49-year-old Sashy Bogdanovich.
Both of them have dabbled in acting but appear to live quiet lives away from Hollywood.
