England bowler Adil Rashid got their T20 World Cup campaign off to the best start against the West Indies, who is Adil Rashid’s IPL team?
Rashid gets England off to great start
England won the toss for their T20 World Cup opener on October 23rd, and elected to bowl in Dubai against the West Indies.
It was a rematch of the 2016 final where the Windies secured the win in the final over.
Off-spinner Rashid bowled 2.2 overs of his allotted four in the match.
His figures read 2.2-0-4-2 as his four wickets helped skittle the Windies for just 55.
He was on a hat-trick after dismissing Kieran Pollard and Obed McCoy, but Ravi Rampaul survived the delivery.
Rashid bowled him two overs later regardless as the Windies were all out within 14.2 overs.
Adil Rashid IPL team revealed
Left-hander Rashid has specialised in the one day formats since his last Test for England in January 2019.
He had never played in the IPL before 2021 as the franchises on the sub-continent preferred home grown spinners.
This was despite his success in the England One Day squads and the domestic T20 tournaments.
However, after Australia’s Jhye Richardson opted to miss the resumption of the season, Rashid finally got his chance in the tournament.
He was signed by the Punjab Kings, captained by KL Rahul and coached by Anil Kumble.
Kumble is the fourth highest wicket taker of all time in Test cricket with 619.
Only Muttiah Muralitharan (800), Shane Warne (708) and James Anderson (632) are ahead of him.
Rashid could not help steer the outfit formerly known as the Kings XI Punjab to the finals.
They finished sixth in the group stage with six wins and eight defeats from their 14 matches.
Rashid only played in one IPL match for the team, and posted figures of 0-35 from three overs.
