MODEL Nick Kamen, who famously stripped off for a Levi’s advert in 1985, has died aged 59 following a long battle with cancer.
The late friend of Madonna was in a high-profile relationship with Amanda de Cadenet between 1999 and 2001 – but who is she?
Who is Amanda de Cadenet?
De Cadenet is an English media personality from London, currently living in Los Angeles.
The 48-year-old was a well-known TV presenter in the nineties, hosting The Word and Big Breakfast before moving to America.
She was also a regular in the tabloid press and was often considered a ‘wild child’.
De Cadenet went on to pursue a career in photography – working for magazines like Spin and Harper’s Bazaar – and has written three books.
She continues to work in front of the camera, hosting The Conversation with Amanda de Cadenet – a vodcast that sees the Brit interview famous stars such as Gwyneth Paltrow, Lady Gaga and Eva Longoria.
When did Amanda de Cadenet date Nick Kamen?
Kamen and De Cadenet dated for three years between 1999 and 2001.
The two dated following her divorce from Duran Duran bassist John Taylor, who she married in 1991 aged 19 and pregnant.
Taylor and de Cadenet went their separate ways in 1997 having had one daughter, Atlanta Noo.
De Cadenet met her current husband – Nick Valensi, a guitarist from the American rock band The Strokes – in 2002 before marrying four years later.
The couple had twins in 2007, named Ella and Silvan.
Speaking about Kamen to the Guardian in 2001, de Cadenet said: “Nick’s the best-looking man I’ve ever seen, to me.
“There is never a time when he doesn’t look good. Never! Ever-ever-ever.
“Which is great. Listen, I don’t see him for months at a time. So when I’m with him, I stare at him.
“You know? I watch my boyfriend while he’s asleep.”
Has Amanda de Cadenet paid tribute to Nick Kamen?
De Cadenet has paid a beautiful tribute to her ex on Instagram.
Accompanied by a picture of Kamen and her daughter, she wrote: “So many feelings hearing that you are gone.
“This is a first for me. When an ex boyfriend dies. Feels odd posting anything on social media. You weren’t even on this stuff.
“I have so many photos I have taken of you, but this is one of the sweetest and reminds me of how much you loved Atlanta. It’s from 1998.
“Reading all the tributes to you, people sharing how kind you were, how talented and yes incredibly handsome.
“I think you would like most, but you would not like that the loudest take away was that you were in an Levi’s ad and worked with Madonna.
“So, I’m going to make sure we don’t forget that any notoriety you gained was something you never embraced. It almost embarrassed you.
“My experience of you, and our time together was that you spent much of your days making art, cooking, travelling and chanting.
“Your practice was the most important thing in your life, and I know that your last breath would’ve been ‘nam-myoho-renge-kyo’.
“Hope you are with your beloved brother Barry now.”
