The new Amazon flick “I Want You Back” stars a medley of A-listers, including Scott Eastwood, Jenny Slate, Charlie Day and Gina Rodriguez.
However, there is one celebrity cameo that fans may have missed.
Pete Davidson scored a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it role in the rom-com as a hard-partier who strips off his clothes, offers drugs to other party guests and checks out a jacuzzi.
And here is how the “Saturday Night Live” alum, 28, snagged the quirky walk-on — or jump-on — part and was caught off-guard in the process.
“I didn’t even tell him what he’s doing,” film director Jason Orley told Variety on the red carpet at the picture’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday. “I said, ‘Can you come down for a night?’ and he said ‘Sure!’ And he showed up and I said, ‘Okay, get up on this ledge and take off your clothes.’ And he was like, ‘What are you talking about?’”
For the cameo, Davidson was fastened onto the ledge of a roof — wearing only his underwear — and leaped onto protective pads on the ground. Turns out, the “King of Staten Island” star didn’t know what stunt he was actually going to do until 10 minutes before the cameras started rolling.
“Until like 10 minutes before, he did not know” Orley continued. “He thought he was going to do a funny scene with Charlie Day. He did not know any stunts were involved. And then he got there, and he saw another person who looked exactly like him, and had his tattoos and he was like, ‘Stunt man! What’s happening? Why do I have a stunt man for this comedy scene, I thought I was just going to joke around with Charlie Day.’ And I said, ‘Nope, you’re getting up on the roof.’”
The film follows two 30-somethings, Peter (Day) and Emma (Slate), who have been dumped by their partners. They band together to ruin their exes’ new relationships.
Orley and Davidson previously first joined forces on the former’s directorial debut, “Big Time Adolescence,” in 2019. He also directed the comedian in his Netflix comedy special “Pete Davidson: Alive From New York.”
Davidson is in a new relationship of his own with Kim Kardashian and made headlines for calling the 41-year-old reality star his “girlfriend” earlier this week and for having a Kardashian prayer candle in his bedroom.
When he was interviewed by “People (the TV Show!)” on Monday, he was asked if his fame had led to a more “fun” lifestyle. “Most of my daily life is, like, getting into cars and showing up to a set,” he said of his notoriety.
“If I’m off, I just either hang with my friends or chill with my girlfriend inside,” Davidson added, referring to the SKIMS owner.
Show host Kay Adams then spotted a candle in the bedroom of his Staten Island home and asked, “Is that a Kardashian candle over your other shoulder? I’ve got good eyes.”
Davidson sheepishly admitted, “Yes, it is. That is. That is exactly what that is.”
