More on Novak Djokovic
Australia’s immigration minister canceled Novak Djokovic’s visa for the second time, citing “health and good order” grounds four days after a federal judge ordered the tennis star released from hotel detention.
The decision casts new doubt on whether Djokovic, a nine-time Australian Open champion, will be allowed to compete for a men’s-record 21st major singles title when the season’s first Grand Slam event gets underway Monday.
Djokovic, whose vaccination status is unknown, arrived in Melbourne with a medical exemption to the mandatory coronavirus vaccination to compete in the Australian Open.
Australia Prime Minister Scott Morrison said earlier that Djokovic would be “on the next plane home” if the tennis star could not prove why he needed an exemption from getting vaccinated.
