Willie D has become a very successful podcast host over the past year, and the Geto Boys rapper has revealed that he often receives large offers from companies that want to buy his platform.
In his latest episode of Willie D Live, which dropped on Wednesday (January 17), the host was giving Keith Murray advice on how to enter into the acting space and encouraged the rapper to “bet on himself.” Willie D used the example of how betting on himself, by entering the podcast space, paid off.
“I know how you can get on, with these big agencies,” he began. “Go do door deals. Do your own thing. Bet on yourself. And when they see you get money without them, they’re gonna wanna come.”
He continued: “One thing the big boys don’t like is you gettin’ money without ’em. They’re gonna come to you. Same thing as I did with my podcast, Willie D Live. When I started, you know, I just started with one subscriber, just like everybody else on YouTube.”
“Next thing you know, I’m at 100,000, 200, 300, 400,000, 800,000 now,” he concluded. “But the thing is, I had to bet on myself first. […] But I went and did it. And now, I’m getting offers. They offer me, almost weekly, I get some type of offer for millions of dollars. They wanna buy the podcast. I’m like, ‘Nah. Because it’s bigger than the money for me.’”
As of this writing, Willie D has nearly one million subscribers on his podcast (978,000, to be exact). Check out his remarks at the 42:10 mark in the video below:
Earlier this month, Willie D made headlines when he promised to “break the Internet again” with an “explosive” interview with comedian Katt Williams.
Teasing the interview on Instagram, Willie said: “#KattWilliams is back and ready to break the internet again with a new explosive interview on Willie D Live! Tuesday Jan 9th @7AM PST, 9AM CST, 10AM EST… Get Ready!
“Watch and listen as I ask Katt the questions you want answers to.”
The full interview with Katt Williams dropped on January 9 and has more than seven million views as of this writing.
It also made headlines when Williams revealed that the reason why he and Suge Knight got in the face of a female photographer back in 2014.
“I’ll tell you the story, and then, you tell me if that changes how you frame this,” he said, when confronted about the incident that resulted in Williams and Knight being arrested. “So, we have a meeting with a hologram company which is going to into a licensing deal on some holograms. This is in Beverly Hills.”
He continued: “So now, there’s Rodeo [Drive]. And behind that, there’s an alleyway where you park your vehicles. Suge has brought his son with him, who is five years old at the time. And before we go into this meeting, Suge’s son runs behind the dumpster and urinates.”
At that point, he said, a woman came out and began filming the child.
Williams doesn’t go into detail about what happened after the woman with the camera began filming the child, saying only that she allegedly thought the child in question belonged to Williams, not Knight.
Williams eventually pleaded no contest to stealing the camera in 2017, and was sentenced to three years probation, per the Associated Press. He was also required to take anger management classes.
