WINONA, Minn. (WXOW) – Winona Health is offering monoclonal antibody treatments for some COVID-19 patients.
The patients must be within 10 days of having an onset of symptoms. The treatment is also available for those who are at high risk of getting infected but have not yet tested positive.
The antibody treatment has been shown to improve and prevent severe symptoms in COVID-19 patients.
“This antibody treatment is essentially giving the patient immediate antibodies,” Director of Inpatient Pharmacies at Winona Health Jill Ender said. “It is giving a boost to the patient’s natural immune system and allowing the body to fight COVID-19 in a better way.”
Monoclonal antibody treatment is given by IV infusion or injection, depending on the severity of the illness.
Those who test positive for COVID-19 can visit the Minnesota Department of Health’s website to determine if they are eligible for treatments.
