Winning the lottery is kind of a big deal.
And it’s fairly understandable to want to befriend anyone who’s ever won the jackpot.
But one woman caused quite a stir when she asked for some of the prize of her boyfriend’s winning National Lottery ticket.
We can see why she thinks she’s entitled to some of the £500 jackpot as she gave her boyfriend the scratchcard for Christmas.
Now a sibling of the lucky man has posted the head-scratching dilemma on the MoneySavingExpert Instagram page.
The person said her brother should get to keep all of the money as the scratchcard was essentially a Christmas gift.

Writing on social media, the sibling said: “Should my brother share his lottery winnings?
“My brother’s girlfriend gave him a National Lottery scratchcard as a Christmas gift and he won £500.
“She thinks he should give her some of the money as she gave him the card, but I think he should keep it as the card was a present.”
The “Money Moral Dilemma” divided hundreds of Instagram users who sided with the man.

One wrote: “No. It was a gift. If she’d given him a pair of pants or a car, would she expect half?
“I’d swerve her to be honest, she sounds like a divvy.”
Another joked: “Give her the money it cost for the ticket.”
A third claimed: “She shouldn’t expect anything, as the poster said the card was a gift. You don’t give to receive.”
However, some Instagram users said the boyfriend should at least spend the money on an activity or holiday to enjoy as a couple.
One said: “If this was me I’d be booking a holiday away with the girlfriend. Or something nice they can do together.”
Another added: “Maybe treat her with it?”
