When it comes to baby names, it’s not the easiest task for parents.
There’s so many things to consider, like how it sounds with a surname and what others think of it.
That’s what one mum-to-be is currently facing and now she’s starting to question her decision.
She and her husband feared the name sounded “too sexy” and people might not take their daughter seriously when she’s older.
In a post on parenting forum Mumsnet, the anonymous woman explained the couple had selected the name Ruby for their child.
The mum-to-be asked members of the website: “Is this name too sexy?”
She added: “We are due a baby girl and have always loved the name Ruby, it has sentimental family connections.
“But coupled with our surname I’m just not sure. Her name would be Ruby Hart. Does she sound like a burlesque performer?
“Nothing wrong with that profession but not sure I want it connected to a baby and would she be taken seriously as an adult?
“What do you think?”
Since it was posted on the open forum, the thread garnered hundreds of comments.
One wrote: “I like Ruby but I’m afraid I do think combined with Hart it sounds like a name of a burlesque act.”
Another added: “Yes sorry Ruby Hart doesn’t sound great. Sounds like a Playboy bunny or dancer.”
While a third commented: “It does sound like a stage name.”
Fortunately for the pregnant woman, other users reassured her the name was perfectly fine.
One Mumsnet poster said: “I think it’s nice.”
A second user wrote: “I think it’s perfectly fine and ordinary name.”
While a third added: “No it isn’t too sexy. Some people might raise eyebrows but I’d love to have that name myself. I think it’s fab.”
