A woman who was too large to fit in a rollercoaster seat made it her mission to lose weight – and she’s since shed 16.8st.
Kayla Hurley felt humiliated when she visited Busch theme park in Florida.
The 28-year-old student and part-time delivery driver said: “It started after I was pregnant with twins and I ended up losing the babies.
“I was depressed after that and just kind of gave up on life. I pretty much just existed and ate my feelings.
“TV dinners, frozen and fried foods, soda, and sweet tea every day.
“I just ate everything I could, I got fast food a lot and would spend around $30 (£23) at McDonald’s and Taco Bell and places like that.”
Kayla added: “I was a mindless eater at the time but it included a lot of soda and fried food and chips and such.
“I would eat until I was sick and went to buffets a lot as well and would get five or six plates before I left.”
The student’s unhealthy relationship with food saw her balloon to 26st.
So in a bid to get her weight under control, she decided to get gastric sleeve surgery.
Even though Kayla didn’t see results straight away, she saw her weight drop when she revamped her lifestyle and diet.
Kayla said: “People usually shy away when they hear you’ve gotten weight loss surgery like you don’t put in work and the weight just falls off which isn’t true.
“I thought it was true when I got the weight loss surgery and ended up gaining almost 30lbs after surgery because I just continued to try and eat exactly like I was eating before, the surgery isn’t a cure, you can’t just do nothing and the weight falls off.
“It’s a tool that can greatly help you if used right.
“I go to the gym six days a week for roughly three hours at a time. I train specific sets of muscle groups depending on what day it is.
“My gym routine hasn’t changed much from when I was starting to lose weight to now. I’ve just mixed up the routines.”
When it comes to diet, Kayla has ditched her favourite snack of McDonald’s fries dipped in vanilla milkshake.
She prefers home-cooked meals and lower calorie drinks.
The super-slimmer said: “My diet consists of mainly seafood and veggies and chicken I don’t eat pork and I rarely eat beef.
“I tend to stay away from fried or processed foods.
“I don’t drink alcohol at all and mainly drink water or unsweet tea with Splenda or coffee.”
It took Kayla five years to get to the point she is at now – dropping down to 11st and a dress size 10/12.
She also recently had surgery to remove 5lbs of loose skin from her body, leaving her feeling better than ever.
The fitness buff said: “I honestly feel like a new person!
“Physically, I have more endurance and I’m not as tired as I used to be and I enjoy doing things I didn’t before like just going for a walk or going swimming or riding my bike.
“I also don’t find myself being as embarrassed to go out in public as much as I remember myself being.”
Kayla added: “I avoided mirrors when I was overweight, I didn’t like looking at myself so I just didn’t and avoided pictures or mirrors as much as I could.
“Now I enjoy trying on new clothes or going shopping and being in pictures with my friends. I don’t feel ashamed for just existing as I used to at my heaviest like I was an inconvenience by just existing.
“Now I really enjoy my reflection cause not only do I feel better but I see my stretch marks and my body as a testimony to the journey I was on.”
