Meanwhile, the election for the position of vice-chair saw some healthy competition, with Councillors Jackie Allen, Deborah Cooke, and Sarah Appleton all vying for the role.
Following a show of hands, Cllr Allen emerged victorious with eight votes, securing her place as the vice-chair for the upcoming term.
However, the ensuing debate led to some of the newer members of the council calling for training to allow them to be put forward for the chairman’s position in the future.
It was highlighted that specific training is available for councillors aspiring to hold the position of chairman.
The council collectively agreed that each committee would have the autonomy to elect a committee chair, provided the member had undergone the necessary training.

Other highlights from the annual general meeting saw councillors deliberate what should be the 2023 school leavers’ gift for pupils in Chirk.
After careful consideration, it was unanimously agreed that all pupils from the two local schools – Chirk Infants School and Ysgol Y Waun Primary School – would receive a gift of equal value.
The determined amount for each student’s gift was set at £15 – a gesture aimed at celebrating their achievements and marking this important milestone in their lives.
Karen Brown, the town clerk, also brought attention to the increased participation of local groups in the Chirk carnival.
To express gratitude for their involvement, it was proposed that individuals interested in joining the carnival festivities be given a special lanyard, granting them access to the event, after they have finished their tasks.
