Xiaomi is getting all out with its wireless charging technology. The company revealed it is working on an 80W charger that can charge a device in under 20 minutes.
Wireless charging has been around for several years now but it is slow. Now, Xiaomi is changing the game with its newly developed wireless charging capability.
The company claims that the 80W wireless charger can go from 0 to 100 in under 20 minutes. Topping up a 4,000mAh device to 50% takes around 8 minutes.
Xiaomi launched the technology in its official YouTube account. The quick clip showcases a modified Mi 10 Pro using the wireless charger. The smartphones sit beside a timer to show how blazingly fast the new tech is.
The Chinese tech giant impressed a lot with the 50W wireless charging of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra. The previous technology can charge a 4,500mAh battery in just 40-minutes.
Oppo tried to compete with its 65W charging but it is not enough to compete with Xiaomi’s speed.
Wireless charging or wired fast charging?
There are a lot of reasons why wireless charging is not yet the norm. First, it is not implemented on every smartphone. The technology is often found on mid-range to flagship devices.
Moreover, smartphones charge faster via its wired counterparts. Manufacturers widely use Quick Charge 3.0 in their devices. Other OEMs implement their own take on fast charging.
The only perk that wireless charging as of now is the lack of cables. It also preserves the flimsy charging port of some devices.
However, Xiaomi might change the game with its recent development. Once it gets out in the market, competitors might follow suit, and it’s a win for consumers.
