Yet another ‘Game of Thrones’ prequel is coming

Brace yourselves: another prequel is coming.

Deadline reports that HBO is “close to giving a pilot order” to yet another “Game of Thrones” prequel, this time about the origins of the House Targaryen.

But don’t expect any Emilia Clarke on this show. The prequel series is slated to take place three centuries before the start of “Game of Thrones” and closely follows “the beginning of the end” of the House Targaryen.

The series is set to follow George R.R. Martin’s book “Fire & Blood,” the first volume of the two-part history of the Targaryens in Westeros.

Martin has been hinting of the project all along, Deadline reports. The author of “A Song of Ice and Fire” teased in May that there were five “GoT” shows in the works and “three of them are still moving forward nicely.”

“What are they about? I cannot say,” he wrote on his blog. “But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of ‘Fire & Blood’ and come up with your own theories.”

This series is created by Martin and “Colony” co-creator/exec producer Ryan Condal, who will also be writing the show.

As Westeros fans know, “Fire & Blood” begins with the Targaryens surviving the Doom of Valyria and follows Aegon the Conqueror as he creates the Iron Throne and then battles to keep it. Of course, spoiler alert, everyone knows what happened to Aegon, but the book answers what really happened during the Dance of the Dragons and the civil war that led to the demise of nearly all Targaryens.

HBO declined to confirm the prequel series, which has been in the works since last fall, and no official title has been released.

So far, one Game of Thrones prequel with the working title “Bloodmoon,” starring Naomi Watts and set thousands of years before the events of the show, has been announced.

As for when Martin will finish the books, the author maintains he is still working on it.
