MANILA, Philippines — Saying that children can’t learn on an empty stomach, the Department of Education (DepEd) called on local government units (LGUs), communities and parents to lend a hand in fighting illiteracy.
“While DepEd is keen on bridging gaps on the curriculum side, the illiteracy problem is not a classroom problem alone,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said in a statement on Tuesday.
