MADISON (WXOW) — In its Saturday update, the Wisconsin Department of Health said in the past day, another 40,000 Wisconsin residents have received their first shot in the COVID-19 vaccine.
The figures show that 1,674,882 people in the state have received at least one dose of the vaccine. That translates to 28.8 percent of state residents according to DHS. 978,416 people, or 16.8 percent of the state’s population, have finished the vaccine series.
In Western Wisconsin to date, 83,880 people have received at least one dose of the vaccine. It equates to 30.6 percent of the total number of people in Western Wisconsin. 53,013, or 19.3 percent, have completed the vaccine series.
The DHS figures show that 38,904 people or 33 percent of residents of La Crosse County have had at least one dose of the vaccine. 24,374 people in La Crosse County or 20.7 percent completed the vaccine series according to the state.
In other counties, these are the percentages for the population receiving the first dose of a COVID vaccine: Monroe: 24.8 percent, Vernon: 29.3 percent, Trempealeau: 32.6 percent, and Jackson: 28.2 percent.

According to numbers from the Wisconsin Department of Health Services on Saturday, there was one new death from the virus.
The total number of deaths in the state from the virus is 6,598.

DHS also reported 50 people were newly hospitalized.
As of Friday, 226 COVID-19 patients were being treated in Wisconsin hospitals, a decrease of 15 from the previous day.
Of those, 57 people, or eight fewer than yesterday, are in the ICU according to the Wisconsin Hospital Association.
There have been 450 positive COVID-19 tests since yesterday in Wisconsin and 3,292 negative results.

Of all positive cases reported since the pandemic began, 561,842, or 97.7 percent, are considered recovered.

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services said that four people are hospitalized in the Western Region of the state, which is comprised of Buffalo, Trempealeau, Jackson, La Crosse, Monroe, Vernon, and Crawford counties. It is a decrease of three from yesterday. None of the patients are currently in intensive care.
