Caitlin Clark’s sophomore campaign derailed by injuries
Following a historic Rookie of the Year season, Clark’s sophomore campaign has been badly affected due to injuries. She only managed to appear in 13 games due to a left quad strain that kept her out for three weeks, a left groin injury that sidelined her for two weeks, and now a right groin injury. She also missed out on the Commissioner’s Cup championship and All-Star weekend in her adopted home city of Indianapolis.
Speaking to Glamour over All-Star weekend, Clark said, “This is the first time I haven’t felt like a young body that can run around and sprint every day and just continue to do that.” “Being a professional athlete, you really have to take care of both your body and your mind; it’s been a journey learning about that.”
Clark has made just 7 of 49 three-point attempts over her last seven games and has gone without a three in three different matchups. This season, she’s shooting 36.7% from the field and just 27.9% from beyond the arc. Despite her shooting struggles, Clark is still averaging 16.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 8.8 assists per game, ranking second in the league.
The 16-12 Fever struggled when Clark was out earlier in the season, but they’ve now won four straight games without her, going into Sunday, moving up to fifth place in the standings.
