A registered mental health nurse for 30 years, Ms Pithouse has held senior positions at several NHS trusts in the city.
She is currently the chief nurse at North London Mental Health Partnership, which is made up of Barnet, Enfield and Haringey Mental Health NHS Trust and Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust.
Before that, between 2010 and 2018, she was at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and took on various roles over that time including deputy director of nursing.
Ms Pithouse is due to start at Central and North West London, which provides community, sexual health, mental health, prison healthcare and addiction services, in early 2025.
She will replace interim chief nurse Helen Willetts, who is taking a career break to go travelling.
Commenting on her appointment, Ms Pithouse said: “I’m thrilled to be joining [Central and North West London] at such an exciting time for mental health and community services.
“I have worked closely with many people from the trust over a long period of time and have always been impressed by what I have seen.
“I’m passionate about improving staff experiences and making sure there are clear pathways for career progression and professional development across nursing in order to drive up standards of care for patients and families.”
The trust is run by chief executive Claire Murdoch, who is a registered mental health nurse as well as national director for mental health at NHS England.
Ms Murdoch welcomed Ms Pithouse’s appointment.
She said: “Her track record on improving quality and showing compassion speaks for itself.
“Amanda’s current role at North London Mental Health Partnership focuses on improving quality and safety of services and making sure service users and their families receive the best possible care, which are the exact values and behaviours we look forward to seeing her underline and take to a new level here at [Central and North West London].”
