Actor Siddharth, who recently got engaged with Aditi Rao Hydari, took a subtle dig at Ranbir Kapoor starrer Sandeep Vanga Reddy’s blockbuster Bollywood film Animal while speaking recently at an event about his last release, Chithha.
Though he didn’t name the film, he used the Tamil version of it, Mirugam, and slammed those who found his 2023 film ‘disturbing’. For the unaware, the film imparted a crucial message on child abuse.
Siddharth, who is known for his bold and honest take on pressing issues, took an indirect dig at Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal and those who found Chithha ‘disturbing’.
At the JFW event, the actor said, “No woman has ever approached me or Arun (Chithha director) and told us that they couldn’t watch the film or it was disturbing. But many men have admitted that to us. They said they won’t watch such kinds of movies. But, they can watch a film titled ‘Mirugam’ (meaning Animal in English), but my film was too disturbing for them. It’s not disturbance, it’s shame and guilt. It’s okay, it will soon change.”
Meanwhile, amid Siddharth’s comments on Animal, Sandeep Vanga Reddy hasn’t responded to the same. The filmmaker is quite outspoken, especially about his movies and political views. Many people are anticipating his response to Siddharth, considering his usual openness.
In September 2023, after almost a week since Chithha’s’ release, the Telugu version titled Chinna was all set to release. At a press conference, Siddharth said that top distributors in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Red Giant Movies and Sree Gokulam Cinemas, called it the best film. “In Karnataka, KGF producers watched the film and secured the rights,” he said.
He added, “The film was supposed to release simultaneously in Telugu. But, many asked ‘who’ll come and watch Siddharth’s movies?’ I told them that if I made a good film, people would come see it. This should have released on September 28. I couldn’t get theatres because of this reason. Asian Films’ Sunil Garu saw the film’s potential and stood by me. I haven’t made a film as good as this. I didn’t want to explain what’s there in the film and recall ‘Bommarillu’ and my other films. I have already said these. If you believe in cinema and if you enjoy cinema, please go watch it. After watching it, if you feel that you don’t want to watch Siddharth’s film, then I won’t hold any press-meets like this.”
